It all began in a room, behind a desk, whilst watching a video on the internet. In that video a person of which I do not have the slightest idea of who it was, was making a ring from what I recall was some kind of American coin. My knowledge on American coins is inexistent so I will not get into detail here. However, they made the ring by drilling quite a big hole in the center of the ring. Then bending the remaining flat surface, where the details of the coin are, to the outside. In a way so that when wearing the ring, you would see all the details around. —While that was a perfectly well made ring in the video, I had something else in mind.
When put to the idea of making a ring from a single coin, I decided to try it almost instantly. As it seemed to me like a marvelous little project to undertake. And so it was!
My idea was to make the ring almost look like “Isildur’s Bane.” The famous One Ring from J. R. R. Tolkiens stories, of which I love reading. Because, you see, the coin of which I used had this same sort of gold color as the One Ring. However the ring turned out rather thin compared the One Ring, but this was done with intention so that it would be less uncomfortable to wear. On the inside remain the lines from where the coin’s detailed inside used to be. Which is a rather nice hidden charm, not visible from the outside.
The metal used in this coin is Nordic Gold. It’s composition is 89% copper, 5% aluminium, 5% zinc, and 1% tin.
More writing will follow in the days ahead.
